Dark-eyed Junco
View RecordingDESCRIPTION:The bird in the image is a Dark-eyed Junco, most likely the Slate-colored morph. This small North American sparrow is easily recognizable by its uniform dark gray (or slate-colored) head, back, and wings, which contrast sharply with a clean white belly. It typically has a pale, conical bill, which appears somewhat bicolored in this image (darker upper mandible, lighter lower mandible). In the image, the bird is seen actively feeding at a bird feeder, with its mouth open, suggesting it's cracking a seed. The snowy environment and the date (January 8th) are consistent with Dark-eyed Juncos visiting feeders during winter across much of their range.
